Civil Practice Areas

One component of CDEL’s mission is to provide quality legal services, pro bono, to low-income residents of Cook County who are either seniors or persons with disabilities. A small staff supports a network of over 1,000 volunteer attorneys and paralegals. In 2011, approximately 400 volunteers were actively involved in providing legal services to over 2,200 clients.

One way in which CDEL provides legal services is through representation in a range of civil practice areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Adult Guardianship Proceedings
  • Consumer  law– including consumer fraud, collections, public utilities, and contract and warranty disputes
  • Elder Financial Abuse
  • Estate Planning – including Powers of Attorney and simple Wills
  • Housing - including, Landlord/Tenant issues, eviction and real property issues
  • Family Law- including uncontested dissolution of marriage
