CDEL Response to COVID-19

CDEL Response to COVID-19

Updated 6/22/20

CDEL's mission is to serve those communities most at risk of severe illness from COVID-19. As such, CDEL takes the health of our clients, community partners, volunteers and staff very seriously. As we continue to monitor COVID-19 we ask that all people who interact with CDEL follow the recommendations of the Chicago Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control. Both agencies update information and recommendations regularly.

Recommendations we ask everyone to take part in include:

  • Washing your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Staying home if you are sick.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, and throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using cleaning spray or wipes.

  • If you have traveled to an area with a travel alert follow the recommendations of the CDC before returning to work or volunteering.

In response to the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 in Illinois and across the nation, CDEL is taking the following additional steps:

  • All community based programming is suspended.  CDEL will communicate with our community partners and volunteers to cancel these programs and will reschedule engagements for a future date.

  • CDEL’s Pro Se Adult Guardianship Help Desk, located at the Daley Center, is closed until further notice.

  • CDEL will instead perform its client intakes and services over the phone and through the mail.

  • CDEL’s office is closed to the public.  CDEL staff members are primarily working remotely.  Staff members present in the office are instructed to follow the recommendations of the CDC, and CDEL is increasing its cleaning of shared work spaces and commonly touched surfaces.

CDEL will continue to monitor the recommendations of the public health agencies and adjust its response if necessary.
