Civil Practice Areas

One component of CDEL’s mission is to provide quality legal services, pro bono, to low-income residents of Cook County who are either seniors or persons with disabilities. A small staff supports a network of over 1,000 volunteer attorneys and paralegals, 300 of whom are active in any given year. In 2017, 2,408 individuals were assisted by CDEL and its volunteers (exclusive of the Pro Se Adult Guardianship Help Desk).

One way in which CDEL provides legal services is through representation in a range of civil practice areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Adult Guardianship
  • Collections
  • Divorce - Uncontested
  • Estate Planning - Powers of Attorney; Simple Wills; Living Will Declarations; Transfer on Death Instruments
  • Elder Financial Abuse
  • Eviction
  • Landlord-Tenant
  • Mortgage Foreclosure
  • Property Tax and Title Issues
