Legal Services

CDEL provides quality legal services, pro bono, (for free), to Cook County low-income seniors and low-income adults with disabilities.  We focus our work on matters related to financial stability, housing, end of life planning, and financial abuse.  Our central goal is to help our clients avoid future, and potentially more serious, legal problems.

CDEL is a non-profit legal services organization which serves a special clientele:

See Eligibility for Services for more information.

CDEL delivers legal services in several ways:

  • Through representation by an attorney, pro bono, in a range of legal areas regarding a specific legal issue.

In addition to offering services from CDEL's main office located in downtown Chicago, CDEL also offers its services at Senior Legal Assistance Clinics Iocated throughout suburban Cook County and the Chicago city limits.

  • Through Initiatives - programs specifically developed to address a single legal issue:

See Senior Center Initiative (SCI) and Senior Tax Opportunity Program (STOP) for more information.

  • Through providing assistance to persons who are representing themselves (pro se) in proceedings for the appointment of a legal guardian for an adult with a disability.

See Adult Guardianship Help Desk for more information.

  • CDEL's newest program seeks to address Elder Financial Abuse, by providing direct representation and community outreach about this serious and growing legal problem
