2012 "Light Up the Loop" Winter Awards Benefit Wrap  Up


CDEL hosted its 2012 Winter Benefit & Awards Benefit, “Light Up the Loop” on February 22, 2012 in Baker & McKenzie’s new offices at 300 East Randolph Street in Chicago.  Guests enjoyed an evening of great food, drinks, live music and networking with new and existing friends while enjoying the panoramic view of Chicago’s spectacular skyline.  The event was chaired by Theresa Jaffe, Principal of Theresa Jaffe Consulting.  Philip H. Corboy of Corboy & Demetrio, Robert E. Deignan of Baker & McKenzie and C. Barry Montgomery of Montgomery Williams & John served as Honorary Co-chairs.  The Winter Benefit was one of CDEL’s most successful events in recent years, raising critical funds and generating untold excitement and awareness about CDEL’s mission to provide pro bono legal services to Chicago's low income seniors and people with disabilities.



As guests at the Winter Benefit arrived, they were greeted with a big “Welcome” from CDEL on the Baker & McKenzie lobby screen.  For the next few hours everyone enjoyed the 1st Annual “Light Up the Loop Winter Benefit” for CDEL.


Volunteer extraordinaire Bob Michalak, Partner at Schulyer, Roche & Crisham and CDEL Board member joins Winter Benefit Chair Theresa Jaffe to welcome guests.


Legal leaders from around the City came out to support CDEL.  Joining Chair Theresa Jaffe is Alderman Edward M.  Burke, Chairman, Chicago City Council Committee of Finance; Barry Montgomery, Partner at Williams Montgomery & John and Jack Rives, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the American Bar Association.


The smooth jazz of The Scales of Justice was enjoyed by the record-breaking crowd.  These fantastic volunteers are lawyers by day and musicians by night.  Pictured here on the keyboard is Steve Thomas, Sidley Austin; on the sax Nick Thompson from the Hunt Law Group; on guitar David Weinstein of Faegre Daniels and on the bass Douglas Graham of Douglas Graham,P.C.

Honored guests included Judge Michael Hyman, Circuit Court of Cook County; Bob Glaves, Executive Director of the Chicago Bar Foundation; Judge Maureen E. Connors, Illinois Appellate Court and Judge Kenneth Wright, Jr. Presiding Judge of the 1st Municipal District, Circuit Court of Cook County.


Representatives from law firms, corporations, academia and the judiciary gather at the standing room only awards presentation.

Mary Dempsey, President of the Philip H. Corboy Foundation, presented the Corporate Partner of the Year Award to Northern Trust. Dale Nichols, Assistant General Counsel accepted on behalf of the Legal Department team.


Wells Hutchison and David Benson, Partners at Katten Muchin Rosenman, received the  Volunteer of the Year Award from Addison Braendel, Partner at Baker & McKenzie and CDEL Board member.  Addie is also a past President of the CDEL Board of Directors.


Barry Montgomery, (far right) Winter Benefit Honorary Co-Chair and Partner at Williams Montgomery & John presented the Impact Award to the team of Kevin Hull, Hull Partners and Adjunct Professor at the John Marshall Law School; Louis Raymond, law student; John Marshall Dean John Corkery; Heather Daniel, law student; Benjamin Whipple, Williams Montgomery & John; Judge Aurelia Pucinski, Illinois Appellate Court and Anthony O’Neill, Williams Montgomery & John.


The contributions of Michael Roth, former CDEL Executive Director, were recognized with the Distinguished Service Award presented by CDEL Board President, Matt Jenkins.

The Hon. Patricia Banks, Presiding Judge, Elder Law & Miscellaneous Remedies Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County congratulates her colleague, the Hon. Aurelia Pucinski of the Illinois Appellate Court on receiving CDEL’s Impact Award.
