Announcing CDEL's New Executive Director

Dear Friend of CDEL,

The Board of Directors of the Center for Disability & Elder Law (CDEL) is pleased to announce the selection of Michael Stone as the Organization’s new Executive Director, effective June 26, 2025.

Following a rigorous and thoughtful search process, the Board unanimously selected Michael, recognizing his outstanding qualifications, deep commitment to CDEL’s mission, and proven leadership within the Organization. His appointment reflects our full confidence in his ability to guide CDEL into its next chapter of growth and impact.

Michael brings more than three decades of experience over the course of his career in legal services, government, and nonprofit leadership. For the past five years, he has served as CDEL’s Legal Director, overseeing the delivery and quality of our legal programs, supervised attorneys and volunteers, and helping shape the Organization’s legal strategy. Prior to joining CDEL, Michael held senior legal and executive roles in both the public and private sectors, including at the Cook County Assessor’s Office, the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, and in private practice.

Michael earned his A.B. in Government and Economics, cum laude, from Harvard University and his J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School. He has a distinguished record of community and civic leadership and volunteerism, and service to the bar, and is a frequent speaker on aging, disability, elder law, and careers in public interest.

With a deep understanding of CDEL’s work, team, and community, Michael is uniquely positioned to lead the Organization. His strategic vision and dedication will be instrumental in advancing our mission.
