Senior Attorney, Pro Bono Coordinator

Cheryl Lipton is a Senior Attorney and CDEL’s Pro Bono Coordinator. Cheryl administers the Adult Guardianship Help Desk at the Daley Center and the community-based Power of Attorney workshops, Neighborhood Legal Clinics, the Will Project and Young Adult Mobile Help Desk. Cheryl also represents petitioners in adult guardianship proceedings.

Following years of volunteering at CDEL’s community projects, Cheryl joined CDEL in 2019 serving first as the Guardianship Coordinator and then as a Staff Attorney and Pro Bono Coordinator. Before joining CDEL, Cheryl was an appellate attorney at the Public Defender’s Office and Chicago Transit Authority, a writer for a national law firm, and an adjunct law school professor at UIC John Marshall Law School, where she taught writing courses.

Cheryl earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in American Culture from Northwestern University. She received her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from The Washington College of Law at American University and, in 2019, she earned her LLM in Elder Law, with distinction, from Stetson University Law School.
