CDEL has and will continue to rise to the challenge of ensuring quality legal counsel to low-income older adults and people with disabilities in Chicago and Cook County. The work we do for our clients and community is more important than ever. We have so much to be proud of from 2025 and it could not have been done without the dedication of CDEL's staff, volunteers, interns, Governing Board members, Young Professionals Board, community partners, and all of our CDEL supporters for their support to further our mission year after year.

"Thank you for explaining everything and being so considerate!" CDEL Client Maggie
In May 2025, Maggie came to CDEL's office to draft and execute her estate planning documents. CDEL staff attorney, Lissette Ortegon was on hand to help her through the whole process of drafting, notarizing, and executing a Power of Attorney for Property, Power of Attorney for Healthcare, and will. Having these documents completed put Maggie and many clients like her at ease! |

Last year, CDEL Client Timothy, who lives in Chicago's Fuller Park neighborhood faced the risk of homelessness after his landlord demanded that her owed over $28,000 in unpaid rent which he insisted he did not owe and had never owed. Timothy came to CDEL through the Early Resolution Program and after fighting this eviction together with CDEL's Extended Representation attorney in court, the judge agreed with CDEL to dismiss the case. This freed Timothy and allowed him to move on with his life to find new housing without harm to his credit history or ability to rent in the future.
You can read more about Timothy's story (who was featured as a part of CDEL's 2025 Giving Tuesday campaign) at CDEL's website: Read more about CDEL Client Timothy |
