CDEL's YPB Hosts a Summer Friendraiser at the Beach & Announces Annual Trivia Night!

On July 22nd, CDEL’s Young Professionals Board held a summer friendraiser at The Dock at Montrose Beach. YPB and Governing Board members invited friends and colleagues to come together to learn about CDEL and our work. It was a perfect summer day filled with fun and connection with fellow friends of CDEL!

Building on the success of its Summer Friendraiser, CDEL’s Young Professionals Board is excited to host its annual Trivia Night on September 24, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Join us at Midwest Coast Brewing Company for a fun night of trivia and connecting with fellow friends of CDEL. DLA Piper and Dorsey & Whitney LLP Volunteer at July POA Workshops

CDEL had two successful power of attorney workshops in July thanks to the help of volunteers from DLA Piper and Dorsey & Whitney LLP! On July 7th, four volunteers from Dorsey & Whitney LLP joined CDEL at a POA Workshop at the Alfreda Barnett Duster Apartments on the near west side of Chicago. The volunteers helped 14 clients execute 29 documents. One week later on July 14th, eight volunteers from DLA Piper came out to Kenmore Senior Apartments in the Uptown neighborhood to assist five clients with their documents.

Thank you to the volunteers and our hosts! We could not do the work we do without you!

CDEL Recognized in Cook County Disability Pride Month Resolution

CDEL was honored to be recognized in the Cook County Board of Commissioners’ proclamation for Disability Pride Month! CDEL Policy & Advocacy Manager Julia Epplin-Zapf and CDEL interns accepted the proclamation with Cook County Commissioners Alma Anaya and John P. Daley.

Later in the month, some staff members including Executive Director Michael Stone represented CDEL at the Chicago Disability Pride Parade.

CDEL Staff Assume Leadership Positions in Chicago Bar Association Committees

CDEL is proud to have four staff members in leadership of committees in The Chicago Bar Association! CDEL Legal Director Stephanie Ridella Vittands is the chair of the Mental Health and Disability Law committee. Staff attorney Eva Adams-Ward is chair of the Serving Our Seniors committee. Staff Attorneys Marlo Pahl and Eli Ackerman are on the LGBTQIA+ committee with Marlo serving as Chair and Eli serving as Vice Chair.

We are so proud of our staff for being leaders in the legal community!
